Dr. Arthemon Nguweneza

Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr Nguweneza is a postdoctoral researcher at the Sickle Data Coordinating Centre (SADaCC), based in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Cape Town. My research focuses on the genetic and clinical epidemiology of sickle cell disease (SCD), with particular interest in chronic complications such as hypertension in individuals with SCD. His research examined the clinical and genetic determinants of blood pressure in individuals with SCD. He also earned an MSc in Epidemiology from Stellenbosch University, which has informed his approach to integrating epidemiological methods with genetic research. In addition to his research, he is actively involved in capacity building, having convened and assisted in courses on systematic review, meta-analysis, epidemiology. He also contribute to data stewardship initiatives for the SickleInAfrica registry, supporting data management, quality assurance, and research readiness across participating sites. Through this work, he aims to enhance the understanding of genetic and clinical risk factors in African populations and improve health outcomes for individuals affected by SCD.
