Ms Kalinka Tavares

Genetic counsellor, South Africa

Kalinka Tavares is a genetic counsellor who obtained an undergraduate and Honours degree in Psychology at the University of South Africa. She spent a year doing trauma counselling and worked as a behavioural therapist for two years. She completed an MSc (Med) Genetic Counselling degree in 2017 and internship in 2018, at the University of Cape Town. She has research experience in the field of hereditary visual impairments. In 2019 she joined the HI-Genes team as a research coordinator and genetic counsellor. She loves doing ballroom and Latin dancing and feels that dancing is a language that everyone can understand.
