Dr. Samuel Mawuli Adadey
PhD Graduate, Ghana
Dr. Adadey was a graduate student from the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, University of Ghana and holds a thesis research fellowship at the Division of Human Genetics, University of Cape Town. He has a special interest in the biochemistry and molecular genetics of human diseases and its application to reduce the burden of genetic diseases in Africa and the world at large. This interest led to his PhD research which focused on studying the genetic causes of hearing impairment in Ghana. The project aimed to generate whole exome sequence (WES) data from sub-Saharan African patients to discover variants in known genes and novel genes that associate with Hearing impairment and would be relevant for non-syndromic hearing impairment therapeutic and diagnostic development in Africa. He is a biochemist and human geneticist who is passionate about capacity building for genetics research in Africa. He aspires to contribute to finding solutions to hearing impairment problems on the continent.
