Dr. Oluwafemi Oluwole
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Dr. Oluwole is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Division of Human Genetics University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa. He joined HiGeneS Africa in the year 2019. He holds a BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology, MSc in Pharmacology (Neuropharmacology) and PhD in Human Genetics. He specialises in teaching topics in pharmacology and genomics. He is interested in investigating rare and common diseases for aetiologies and targeting treatments. Dr Oluwole is currently tailoring research to unravel the mysteries behind hearing impairment in African patients by investigating human-mouse orthologs genes. He is a proven early-career scholar. He is skilful in animal models of diseases, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and data science. He has presented his works many times at lab meetings and conferences locally and internationally. He has co-authored up to sixteen research papers and has won awards/fellowships in his career that included awards from the International Brain Research Organization award, the African Academy of Sciences and the NIH/Wellcome Trust-funded Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa) Grant-Holder linked awards. He is an ardent reviewer for various highly reputable scientific journals and a member of professional scholarly societies. He is currently a member of the H3Africa Genome Analysis working group and the International Liaison Officer for the Nigerian Society for Human Genetics.
